Revealing natural systems' fractal intelligence at a nano scale
Using Electron Microscopy to Inspire Nature Experience Radical Design (NERD Jam)
Humans are naturally visual beings. We wanted to deepen our appreciation and resonance with other living beings through looking at them under a high-resolution electron microscope, where astonishing patterns and color combinations stand out even more.
Co-written between Sue Okerstrom, Daniela Esponda, and Carolina Fernandez-Jansink, this article describes five sessions of Nature Experience Radical Design (NERD) workshop where participants were taken through a deepening connection experience and innovation practices with a sense of awe.
The article shares some designs generated by business and biomimicry professionals from the workshop, showing the value of visual appreciation of nature at the nanoscale in inspiring the development of innovative regenerative designs and businesses.
