Who We Are

Founder and Life-Centered Business Developer & Strategist

Carolina Fernández-Jansink

Carolina is passionate and committed to supporting Businesses in becoming a Force for Life. As a biomimic, Life-centered business strategist and sustainable and regenerative finance expert, she is founder, co-founder and advisor to several Life-centered and regenerative organizations.

Her journey has taken her to support and learn from loving and inspiring pioneering business leaders, financiers, land and water stewards and, certainly, from Mother Earth. Her 20 years experience spans across The Americas and Western Europe.

She holds a MSc in Business from Erasmus-Rotterdam School of Management, a BSc from Tec de Monterrey and a Biomimicry certificate from Biomimicry 3.8.

Together with her family, they belong to the beautiful Sierra Madre Oriental in Mexico, the peaceful West European Coastal Forests in The Netherlands, and the Line Creek Watershed, located in the Appalachian Piedmont Forests, USA.

Rebecca MacKinnon

Life-centered Researcher & Designer

Rebecca Barbara MacKinnon

Rebecca is a creative from Cape Town, South Africa, who is dedicated to purposeful endeavors in design, biomimicry, and regeneration. Kind and welcoming, she is committed to bringing intention and care to all aspects of her work.

At Cascading, Rebecca plays a vital role in planning, design implementation, and visual communication, infusing her projects with creativity and beauty.As a biomimicry professional and educator, Rebecca mentors aspiring professionals, manages communities, contributes to educational product development, and shares her expertise in systems-based biomimetic architecture design, advocating for living buildings that embrace biophilia and ecological performance standards.

Rebecca holds a MSc in Bio-inspired Innovation from Utrecht University, a BSc (Hons) in Marine Biology from the University of Cape Town, Design Thinking Certificate from Hasso-Plattner Institute of Design, and is a Biomimicry Practitioner (Biomimicry Academy Germany).

Rebecca is a sister to four and an aunt to two, and connects to Place through ocean swims and sunrise hikes. She is part of the Berg watershed and Cape Floristic Region.

Daniela Esponda Rodriguez

Daniela Esponda Rodríguez

Life-Centered Innovator

Biomimetic industrial designer and technology inventor with a passion for nature-based solutions, nature-inspired design, and sustainability, Daniela specializes in innovation and product development: ideation, design, prototyping, business strategy, and go-to-market strategy.

She has 18 years of experience in product design and development and green businesses for startups, private sector, and as an independent consultant. She holds a Master of Sciences in Biomimicry from Arizona State University.

Throughout her career, Daniela has earned international recognition for her creative and innovative biomimetic solutions, as well as green business competitions. She has facilitated conferences and workshops on the Science of Biomimicry, holds a functional leadership position at a biomimicry network, and teaches as a professor of Biomimetic Sciences at UNAM in Mexico.

She is also a founder of many organizations focused on developing sustainable, innovative technologies that learn from nature and emulate organisms, combining art, design, science, and nature, and has developed several patents and trademarks for her developed technologies.

Daniela is part of the cuenca del valle de mexico watershed.

Bowie Yin Sum Kung

Life-Centered Communicator

Hong Kong native and descendant of the Tenka peoples and Zhejiang Han tribe, Bowie Yin Sum Kung is a regenerative writer, passionate environmental educator and activist, and tenacious composter. At Cascading, she is committed to centering Life in creating different forms of communication and relationships. In her work, she strives to reflect and connect deeply with Living systems, speaking to the Life in the reader. Bowie promotes composting and agroecology with various local organizations and institutions in Costa Rica.

She holds a Certificate in Regenerative Entrepreneurship and a BA in International Relations from Mount Holyoke College, and is currently pursuing her MS in Climate Change and Development from SOAS University of London.

Bowie grew up on volcanic islands in the Jian Nan Subtropical Forests (now known as Hong Kong) and is now grateful to live in traditional Huetar territory and the Rio Toyogres watershed in the Isthmian forest of Costa Rica, with her partner, Juan, and a dog, Sultan.
